Ghostbusters game to launch exclusively on PlayStation, free service VidZone showcased to press, AFL and NRL games coming to PSP - all announced at Sony press event PAUSE yesterday.
Media gathered at Sony Computer Entertainment Australia's (SCE Aust.) PAUSE event (PlayStation Australia Update & Software Event) yesterday at trendy LUXE STUDIOS in East Sydney to witness a number of exciting announcements in the world of PlayStation®.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the original hit movie, Ghostbusters: The Video Game for PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®2 is to be published in PAL territories by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe in June, meaning that owners of PS3™ and PS2™ will get their hands on the game that reunites the cast of the hit movies. To mark the 25th anniversary of the well loved franchise, the game will launch in coordination with the Blu-ray Disc™ release of the original hit movie and licensing programs from Sony Pictures Consumer Products Inc. Ghostbusters: The Video Game will launch in Europe and PAL regions, including Australia and New Zealand, on 19th June 2009 exclusively for PS3™ and PS2™.
SCE Aust. also announced yesterday a joint venture with Sydney-based distributor, Home Entertainment Suppliers Pty Ltd (HES), to bring the two biggest Australian footy sporting codes, AFL and NRL, exclusively to PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable). Both AFL Challenge and Rugby League Challenge are officially licensed, true to life sports simulation games, developed locally by Melbourne-based company, Wicked Witch Software. Perfectly timed for release mid-season in July, these two titles are set to be a firm favourite with the army of footy fans who will be able to recreate the on-field action and excitement on the go with their PSP™. Featuring all of the leagues players recreated, every team will be faithfully represented from both codes in the two exclusive titles. Check out a selection of screenshots below.
Media at yesterday's PAUSE event also got a first look at a new music video service for PlayStation®3, called VidZone. It's a brand new, free service that gives you the freedom to view thousands of music videos on demand by streaming them directly to PS3™. Backed by several major record labels, as well as thousands of independent labels, VidZone will bring PlayStation music fans a wealth of the hottest music videos from artists they want to watch at their own leisure and in the comfort of their living room. Incredibly accessible and easy to use, the VidZone application is downloaded from PlayStation®Store via PS3 and stored under the music icon on the PS3 XrossMediaBar (XMB™). As well as selecting single high quality music videos to stream, you can also put together and save your own music video library, creating custom playlists for every occasion that you can stop, fast forward and rewind, giving you complete control. It's not just a home experience though: VidZone features cross-functionality with PSP™ that lets you create your playlists when you're out and about and then have them waiting at home ready to stream to your PS3™.
While not quite in time for yesterday's PAUSE event, the official street date for the highly anticipated PlayStation®3 exclusive, inFAMOUS, has just been announced this morning. The action adventure game from Sucker Punch, the creators of the award-winning Sly Cooper series, inFAMOUS will be available in stores across Australia and New Zealand on 4th June 2009.
