Konami gamescom update

Konami announces all-new psychological profiling, the Belmont Clan and more at gamescom, Europe's leading trade fair in Cologne, Germany.

Konami unmasks the Belmont Clan in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is under the wing of Konami's fast-growing European Product Planning department, and marks a new beginning for the Castlevania series, with Madrid-based developer Mercury Steam working closely with Konami's respected Kojima Productions studio, led by Hideo Kojima. The PlayStation®3 title is incredibly ambitious mixing stunning combat elements, with a fully interactive 3D realm populated by all manner of undead and inhuman denizens. The game's as yet unnamed protagonist, voiced by Jason Isaacs, is heard to proclaim he will "wipe the name of Belmont from this world... forever", while a mysterious new Mask adds further to the mystery.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow will be released for PlayStation 3 in 2010.

Jackson 5 tracks licensed for Karaoke Revolution

Konami has announced it will return to the singing genre, with the advent of Karaoke Revolution, an all-new sing-along title for PlayStation®3, releasing in November. Developed by Blitz Games, Karaoke Revolution allows up to 16 players to get together and take each other on in singing contests in an ongoing quest for fame. The game is perfect as either a solo game or a multi-player get-together.

The new game offers 50 licensed tracks including five hits from the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson.

Karaoke Revolution offers a number of key game modes, including a Party option for 16 users, which allows participants to compete against each other and create bespoke playlists. The PlayStation 3 version will also feature wide-ranging online play, allowing users to compete with rival singers from all over the globe and download additional tracks in the future. The PlayStation 3 version also enjoys full use of the PlayStation Eye camera.

Hideo Kojima presents new Peace Walker elements

Development legend Hideo Kojima has appeared at the gamescom event in Cologne to outline his ambitious plans for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Kojima has detailed new plot and gameplay elements for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) title, which acts as a direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The gamescom event witnessed the unveiling of an all-new trailer for the game, while Kojima detailed the first information on the game's multi-player co-operative mode.

Metal Gear Solid®: Peace Walker is set in 1974 and boasts an all-new story penned by Kojima himself. Scheduled to launch in 2010, the game takes the series in an exciting new direction with incredible visuals that bring its many characters and set pieces to vivid life, and a unique new game system designed specifically for the PSP format.

The game is already being hailed as the most exciting PSP title in development. "Gamescom is the most important show in the European calendar and we are extremely excited that Hideo Kojima is attending this event," explained Martin Schneider, European PR and Marketing Director at Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. "He will be there to meet his fans and elaborate on Peace Walker's new co-operative elements to all committed games players."

Face your fears in Silent Hill

Konami has released more details on the elaborate psychological profiling system at the heart of its new Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for PlayStation®2 and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable).

While the new game borrows key plot and setting elements from the original PlayStation game, this re-imagining begins with a visit to a psychiatrist, who asks the player to answer a series of questions. From here on in, their every movement, reaction and response is monitored and the game tailored accordingly.

This means that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a game that will be different for everyone who plays it. At its heart, the mystery of main character, Harry Mason’s missing daughter Cheryl remains, but the game is centered on the notion of family relations, and subtle plot elements and situations in the game outline a series of circumstances related to Harry’s plight.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is being developed by Climax, the team behind the acclaimed Silent Hill: Origins for PSP® and PlayStation 2, and will also feature an all-new soundtrack by series composer Akira Yamaoka.

"From the very beginning, we planned to re-invent the horror-genre, getting deeper into the player’s minds and taking a new approach for videogames," commented Tomm Hulett, Producer of Silent Hill Shattered Memories for Konami Digital Entertainment. "The development team took a long time studying all kinds of psychological elements, and created a unique system to monitor all player actions - even small things like how long an object is looked at. The result is a diverse experience, which adjusts itself all the way through the game and creates a story-driven experience like never before in any video game."
