PSP™

PSP® evolves to complement today's digital lifestyle in the form of PSP®go, hitting stores today, 1st October 2009.

The newest addition to the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) family, PSP®go, hits stores today, October 1.

Consumers who purchase and register their PSPgo during the first ten days of release will also be eligible for a free downloadable copy* of the eagerly anticipated real driving simulator, Gran Turismo®, which makes its handheld debut on PSP the same day PSPgo launches. This complements a special PSPgo Rewards** promotion also announced to help existing PSP owners with UMDs (Universal Media Discs), to start their digital games collection for PSPgo.

PSPgo is designed to cater to the needs of today’s digital lifestyle enthusiasts who want to take their range of digital entertainment content – including music, movies, pictures and games – with them while on the go. PSPgo joins current PSP model, PSP-3000, to offer consumers greater choice of how they want to manage and enjoy their portable entertainment.

Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia said, “PSPgo is the best choice for today’s on-the move consumers who prefer not to carry around physical media and are looking for ultra-portable, on-demand digital entertainment from games, to music and video. Now smaller and lighter than ever, the cutting edge design of PSPgo means it has never been easier to have your world of digital entertainment in the palm of your hands.”

With the steady expansion of broadband network infrastructure, the number of consumers who choose to download and enjoy their entertainment content digitally is set to increase. To address this growing trend, PSPgo replaces PSP’s original UMD drive with 16GB of flash memory***, allowing users to easily store their digital entertainment content and offering unlimited possibilities of portable fun – all in a pocket-sized unit with a stylish sliding display panel.

What’s more, there’s additional digital content and services, available through PlayStation®Network, which will enhance the world of entertainment available only on PlayStation® platforms. SCE Australia, along with third party developers and publishers, will continue to build on the content line-up within PlayStation®Store and a stream of new titles will become available. This broad content offering is across all genres, including new games, free demos, PSone® classics for PSP, add-on items for game titles and trailers. “In addition to Gran Turismo, PSP owners are set to enjoy other brand new, made for PSP, PlayStation franchise titles including MotorStorm™ and last year’s PlayStation®3 monster hit, LittleBigPlanet™,” said Michael Ephraim.

Keeping all this entertainment content organised is also easy using the new software application, Media Go™, bundled with PSPgo. Users can access and download entertainment content on PlayStation Store via their PCs and then easily transfer to PSP.

Complementing this strong breadth of entertainment experiences, minis will also launch on October 1, and further taps into the consumer demand for smaller, snack sized games. Fifteen games will be available at launch, across a wide variety of genres including arcadestyle games, racers and parlour games - among others - with more than 50 games due to be on offer by the end of the year. This includes content from local Australian developers.

In addition, Digital Reader for PSP will launch with Digital Comics this December, giving users a brand new way to enjoy comic books. Putting a huge library of digital comics at your fingertips, the service lets you download hundreds of classic and new comics from PlayStation Store to your PSP. This will include titles from Marvel Entertainment and IDW Publishing featuring some of the biggest comic book characters including Spider-Man, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Transformers and Star Trek.

From 1 October 2009, PSPgo is set to keep consumers more connected with their favourite multimedia content, and carry their whole world of digital entertainment in their hands.
