Welcome to Shanghai

Story

Welcome to Shanghai

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a raw and intense third person shooter designed to take players on an visceral story driven experience, following two of gaming's most disturbed criminals through the gritty Shanghai underworld. Introducing a new visual experience, the design of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has been inspired by documentary film-makers and the user-generated content era.

Every aspect of the game has been designed to deliver a fresh perspective to the words intensity and realism in videogames. In Kane & Lynch 2, Lynch is now living out his days in Shanghai working with a British criminal called Glazer. Glazer is the boss of a gang that left Europe in search of new ways to expand his criminal empire.

This adult tale begins with Lynch accepting a deal to ship an assortment of munitions to Africa from China with a little help from his old friend, Kane. Ultimately, things turn sour quickly and a bloodbath ensues. Dark, gritty and packed with action, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will have you on the edge of your seat right from the outset.

Gameplay

Get your gun

While the look of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days may be inspired by the user-generated content of today, the action itself is definitely culled from a myriad of blockbuster action movies that have exploded onto screens over the years. From Miami Vice through to the Tom Cruise film Collateral and Die Hard 4.0, developer IO Interactive has taken a leaf out each one's book to ensure that the action is fast, furious and almost non-stop from the opening mission through to the final act.

It's also worth noting that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days features camerawork that is extremely intense during battle and when dashing between sections of each mission. If you want to tone this down, you can do so by switching on Steadicam in the options menu. Taking control of Lynch rather than Kane (who was the lead playable character in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men), you wield an arsenal of weapons including pistols and machine guns. You can also pick up items such as fire extinguishers and throw them at enemies before shooting them, sending attackers reeling back from the explosion.

The cover system has been completely revamped from the original game too. Now, to snap to cover in the game you simply approach a wall, pillar or car and press the X button to step in and out of cover in the middle of a gunfight. The developer has also introduced a new gameplay element called Down Not Dead, a device that allows you to crawl to safety when you've taken too much damage by quickly pressing the X button when prompted. If you're successful, you can duck behind cover and wait for your health to replenish before trying again. If not, you're tasked with beginning that section of the mission again.

Cops and robbers

Multiplayer

Cops and robbers

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days features a number of multiplayer modes including Fragile Alliance, a mode that makes a welcome return from the first game, where all players take on the role of thieves who must pull off a heist and escape with the goods. However, should any of the players die in the middle of a game, they will instantly return as police officers whose goal is then to take down the criminals.

Another interesting twist is that at any point in the game you can decide to turn on your teammates and slay them in an attempt to make it out alive with all the money for yourself. Be warned though: doing this will make your escape much harder, so it's best to gain some experience before going rogue.

In Arcade Mode, things play out in much the same way as they do in Fragile Alliance with one exception: your teammates are all computer controlled. Once you have completed a round in Arcade Mode, the difficulty is increased. In Undercover Cop Mode, one player is designated the role of police officer without the other players knowing. That player's goal is to then take down each of the villains without getting spotted by his criminal cohorts.

The final multiplayer mode in Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a team objective based game where players are split into two groups - cops and robbers. The thieves are tasked with stealing money from a location and making it out alive, while the players controlling the police are posted at the exit and must defend it in an attempt to prevent the others from escaping.
