In Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, an artefact known as the Tablet of Order and Chaos is smashed into pieces during a battle between Spider-Man and the sinister Mysterio. When the tablet shatters, multiple Marvel Universe realities are thrown into turmoil. The magical Madame Web then summons four different iterations of Spider-Man from four separate realities to help her restore balance to the universe once more.
Set in the worlds of Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man Noir, Spider-Man 2099 and Ultimate Spider-Man, you assume the role of each Spidey and battle a series of increasingly tough villains in order to retrieve the tablet fragments. Utilizing each Spider-Man character's abilities, you manoeuvre huge environments, battle henchmen and eventually face off against your arch enemies.
It's time to swing into action!
Four worlds of villains
There are a huge number of villains that you will have to do battle with in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. In Amazing Spider-Man, you'll face off against the likes of Kraven the Hunter in a jungle environment, Mysterio, the mighty Juggernaut and Sandman. In Spider-Man Noir, enemies include the tommy gun totting Hammerhead, Goblin and the Vulture, a winged menace bent on keeping you from retrieving the tablet fragments.
Other characters that surface throughout the course of both Spider-Man 2099 and Ultimate Spider-Man are Carnage, the merc with a mouth, Deadpool, Electro, Hobgoblin, Scorpion and the genius scientists turned super villain, Doctor Octopus. Suffice to say, as all four Spider-Man characters you will have your work cut out for you in a game that throws tonnes of action and great story your way.
Four web heads are better than one
At the outset of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, you're taken through each world so you can get to grips with the various tactics each Spider-Man employs to locate the missing tablet fragments. It's the perfect primer for what's about to begin, and means you will already have a handle on the gameplay before being thrown into the kinetic action sequences.
In Amazing Spider-Man, you'll need to utilize web transformation attacks, including turning your web fluid into a giant hammer for slamming enemies to the ground and against walls. In Spider-Man Noir, the goal is to stay in the shadows at all times. If you're spotted, enemies brandishing machine guns will cut you down instantly. By remaining in the shadows, you can sneak behind your foes and take them down swiftly. You can also hang from ledges and drop down to deliver knockout blows from above.
In Spider-Man 2099, the action moves faster than in any of the other worlds, so be prepared to pick up the pace. For example, you have the ability to glide through the air using Spider-Man's futuristic suit. Whilst in flight, you can accelerate to catch up to an enemy and slow down time to dodge any falling debris. It takes a little getting used to, and once you grasp the pace of this universe, the non-stop action is addictive and you'll find yourself coming back to see if you have the mettle to complete the challenges on a higher difficulty.
In Ultimate Spider-Man, you're kitted out with the symbiote suit, a black liquid-like substance that's crafted from alien DNA. With it, your powers are even more devastating as you lash out with tendril attacks. You also have a rage metre that, when filled, is perfect for taking out huge waves of enemies.
Combat in all four dimensions works in exactly the same way: light and heavy attacks, dodges and web based moves. The more enemies you take down, the more points you gain. These points can then be used to purchase upgrades from the menu screen. New abilities include enhancing your move set, health and alternate outfits for each Spider-Man. You also gain points by collecting the Spider-Man tokens located throughout the map and completing the sub-challenges set out for you in the menu screen such as rescuing hostages, swinging through the air for a certain amount of time and taking out an allotted number of foes.
