Story

The Warwolfs

The year is 2015 and a rebel insurgent group funded by a powerful Russian crime syndicate called the SRN is threatening the Eastern African continent with all out war using a fearsome weapon known as the Trinity bomb, a missile with the stopping power of ten tactical nukes.

Stepping into the boots of Lieutenant Colonel William Bishop, leader of the Warwolf Squadron, it's your job to take to the skies and stop the SRN and their malevolent leader, Colonel Andrei Markov, who will stop at nothing to destroy cities, towns and even an entire country.

ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON is jam-packed with fast and furious aerial combat, so you'll need a quick trigger finger and super-fast reflexes to survive the intense sky battles that await you at every single turn. So, grab your wireless controller and take down the SRN on PlayStation 3.

Gameplay

Dogfights

One of the new additions to this latest outing for the long-running PlayStation series is Dogfight Mode, which can be initiated once you are in range of a target by pressing the L2 and R2 buttons at the same time on your wireless controller.

Once in Dogfight Mode, you'll have to keep your enemy in your sights before destroying them with a homing missile or using machine gun fire. This new mode is developer, Namco Bandai's, own version of Close-Range Assault (CRA), which aims to increase the intensity of the battles you take part in by keeping you close to the action at all times.

For the first time in the ACE COMBAT series' history, you'll also be able to take control of other aircraft in battle including attack helicopters and stealth bombers, and you can even step into the boots of a door gunner on a Black Hawk. Here's a tip - at the outset of the game be sure to select Optimum Controls from the menu and not Original unless you are an ACE COMBAT expert. Optimum Controls are perfect for getting to grips with the game's intense style of gameplay, which is sure to test even hardened gamers.

Multiplayer

Sky wars

ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON features a number of multiplayer modes including the brand new Capital Conquest, where you and up to 15 of your friends can compete via PlayStation Network for supremacy in the sky in teams of eight. In it, the goal is simple - destroy the opposing team's base using a range of aircraft including fighters, bombers and helicopters.

There are also a number of other modes that can accessed via PlayStation Network including Domination, where you'll need to work with teammates using helicopters to hold various control points on the map that are being defended by anti-aircraft weaponry.

You can team up with a friend in co-operative play too and battle through slightly altered versions of the single player campaign missions. While the missions are almost exactly the same, the difficulty and number of enemies you'll face have been slightly tweaked to accommodate two players rather than one.
