The war with the Chimera rages on in Resistance 3 as you take on the role of Joseph Capelli on a perilous mission across the United States in a bid to salvage what's left of mankind.
Picking up four years after the brutal Chimera invasion in Resistance 2, almost 90 per cent of the world's population has been slaughtered or transformed into enemy troopers. Capelli has been dishonourably discharged and now lives among the remnants of society with his wife and son in the town of Haven, Oklahoma in an underground bunker.
When Dr Fyodor Malikov arrives with an opportunity to deliver a blow to the occupying Chimera forces, Capelli is left with no option but to leave behind his family and embark on a harrowing journey from Oklahoma to New York City. This is humanity's last stand and you are its only hope - start fighting back now.
A new kind of Resistance
In Resistance 3 on PlayStation 3 you'll be able to experience the action in a whole new dimension thanks to Insomniac Games' introduction of eye-popping stereoscopic 3D.
As you battle your way through the sprawling storyline you'll find yourself leaping from your sofa as Chimeran creatures pounce for the attack, and the landscape comes to life around you. To play Resistance 3 in 3D on PS3 you'll need a 3D TV and 3D compatible glasses.
Resistance 3 also comes with PlayStation Move motion control features, allowing for an even richer experience. That means you'll be able to grab your PlayStation Move sharp shooter and take down the Chimera with unrivalled accuracy in stunning stereoscopic 3D.
The road to hell
During your terrifying journey through the wreckage of the United States in Resistance 3, you'll wield a variety of familiar and new weaponry. Resistance favourites, the Marksman and Bullseye, make a welcome return in this latest chapter of the saga, alongside a number of fresh additions including the Mutator.
The Mutator emits a mist that infects any Chimera it touches with gut-wrenching cysts. There is also the Deadeye sniper rifle and shrapnel grenade to get to grips with over the course of the game's action-packed campaign mode. Another new addition to Insomniac Games' alternative version of reality is upgrades, which means the more you use a specific weapon in combat, the more powerful it becomes. You can also now carry more weapons than ever before thanks to the inclusion of the Weapon Wheel.
However, be sure to vary your choice of firepower over the course of the game - sticking to just one gun can be hazardous to your health, and there are certain Chimera that can be disposed of more quickly by a particular type of ammo. For example, the Long Legs - a new type of creature within the Chimeran forces - move at such a fast pace, the best way to take them down is with the Bullseye's secondary shot. That way, you never miss.
The fight continues online
In Resistance 3 on PlayStation 3, you and up to 15 other players can battle online via PlayStation Network as either human or Chimera fighters in a variety of thrilling game modes throughout a range of different locations.
If you don't like the idea of taking on the Chimera forces on your own, why not grab a friend and another wireless controller and have them fight alongside you as John Harper. However, if you are looking for a challenge then it is best to try your hand at the campaign mode alone, before calling in a friend to wage war with you during a second play through.
There are a number of online multiplayer modes for you to sink your teeth into, all of which feature perk systems, kill streaks and weapon upgrades.
Battles in multiplayer mode take place in a variety of Chimera-ravaged locations including Wales, Chad and the Australian outback. Grab your wireless controller and take the fight against the Chimera online today.
