The PlayStation Community grabs a piece of the action at E3 by getting its PS Vita, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and Resistance 3 questions answered.

As the main show doors opened to the public at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, PlayStation hosted a live web chat in the official PlayStation Forums.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the main show floor, Adam Grant, brand manager for PS Vita in Europe, was first in the hot seat.

The ability to collect trophies when playing PS Vita titles is a first for handheld gaming on PlayStation, and Adam confirmed: "The trophies you collect playing PS Vita games will add to your overall trophy count."

Similarly, the community was keen to find out more about cross-platform play between PS Vita and PS3 titles: "We already showed WipEout 2048 and Ruin with cross-platform play and we are working with developers to ensure this feature is rolled out across as many suitable titles as possible. In WipEout for example, you'll be able to race against people playing the game either on PS Vita or PS3."

Billed as a revolution in handheld gaming, the PS Vita system's features will create brand new gameplay experiences: "With the gyroscope and accelerometer, in a game such as Little Deviants, you control the characters by tilting or moving PS Vita around; also, in WipEout, you tilt PS Vita to get the perfect line through a bend, and in Uncharted you move PS Vita to aim at a character before taking him out."

As well as brand new ways to play, PS Vita owners will be able to enjoy a wide range of PSP titles – "PlayStation Vita will support backwards compatibility for PSP and minis games" – while thanks to Party, the social application revealed at SCEA's press conference, "you could be playing Uncharted and your friend could be browsing the Internet at the same time and you could be exchanging game tips."

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception is the third outing on PlayStation 3 for Nathan Drake and his fellow adventurers and Richard Lemarchand, co-lead game designer at developer Naughty Dog, said: "I recently played through the whole game... so, I can confirm that the single player game is about the same length as that of Uncharted 2 and, although I might be a bit biased, I'm happy to say that I think the cinematic gameplay experience we've created is going to blow people away in the same way that Uncharted 2 did."

Richard highlighted some of the new technology shown at SCEA's press conference, such as the dynamic water system seen in the cruise ship demo: "Did you notice the way that the water was sloshing around in the swimming pool? And, of course when the ship tips over, the water in those sequences is a dynamic simulation and it's taken a lot of hard work to make them look and play really great."

And he was happy to confirm an eagle-eyed spot from forum user CEK111, who asked for more details on the ring he had seen Nathan's fellow adventurer Elena wearing in the E3 trailer: "I'm afraid I'm not going to tell you anything that would spoil the story for you, but I can let you know that the presence of that ring is significant and will be addressed as the events of Uncharted 3's single player game unfold."

Rounding off an informative and fast paced two-hour question and answer session, Jon Paquette, writer at Insomniac Games, fielded questions on the latest outing of another PS3 original series, Resistance 3.

As well as answering questions on the game's backstory - "Capelli was dishonourably discharged from the military" - he teased the community with an insight into the opening of the game: "At the beginning of Resistance 3, we learn that Dr Malikov found unique protein in Hale's blood and from that was able to create a cure for the Chimera virus but unfortunately 90 per cent of the human population has already been killed by the Chimera."

A big thank you to everyone who took part in the live chat, to the PlayStation Community for providing questions and to Adam Grant, Richard Lemarchand and Jon Paquette for making time to answer your questions.
