Down on his luck dreamer Larry Daley knows he is destined for something big. He just never imagined that working the graveyard shift at the museum might lead to it.

During his watch extraordinary things occur - a T-Rex, Mayans, Romans and Cowboys come to life to wage epic battles, while a Neanderthal attempts to make fire and Attila the Hun pillages the other exhibits. It is only thanks to a wax figure of President Teddy Roosevelt that Larry can get a handle on how "big" things have become and calm the bedlam.
