Conference call

PlayStation®3

Brand new features and great new games, all announced at SCEE's Leipzig press conference.

It was standing room only the Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) Leipzig press conference this evening, as members of the press crowded into the specially designed "This Is Living" area to hear what the future held in store for PlayStation 3.

All through the day, convention attendees had the chance to explore the stand, themed around a hotel, a beach and a luxurious bathroom, and play some of the hottest upcoming PS3 games including Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Time Crisis 4, but now all eyes were on the stage as David Reeves, President of SCEE outlined the plans for the upcoming months.

Play away

The first piece of breaking news was the announcement of PlayTV, a brand new accessory that allows you to pause and rewind live TV, as well as recording your favourite shows to your Hard Disk Drive and giving you access to a wide range of digital TV channels. Not only that, but this new feature is to link seamlessly with your PSP.

Next up was a video detailing just a few of the 275 scheduled titles that are in production for PlayStation 3, a high-energy presentation that included shots of such hotly-anticipated titles as Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Lair.

However, it was what came next that caused the biggest buzz of the evening - quite literally! Appearing on the video screen was none other than Buzz, the shiny-suited Buzz! Game quizmaster who was here to introduce Buzz! Quiz TV, the PS3 debut of the popular series that will include user-generated content and online quizzing against friends all over the world.

Football fans rejoice, as SCEE also announced a partnership with FIFA to bring the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2008 to PS3. This online FIFA tournament is open to all, and you can register now by going to http://www.fifa.com/.

Of course, you should always go out with a bang, and the SCEE conference did just that as the head of Sony Computer Entertainment Germany took to the stage with rock band Die Toten Hosen to belt out a SingStar version of their song Steh Auf, Wenn Du Am Boden Bist.

So ended a press conference packed with exciting news and great new features for PS3. Make sure to check out au.playstation.com for more in-depth information on all these announcements, and for more exciting Leipzig content.
