Your guide to understanding MUBI on PlayStation 3.

What is MUBI?

Launched in November 2010, MUBI is a PlayStation 3 service that provides an incredible online film library for movie lovers, featuring acclaimed independent and classic films, all of which are accessible through high quality video streaming.

What kind of video on demand service does MUBI offer?

MUBI offers films to stream for seven day rental periods. Film fans with an insatiable appetite for cinema can watch as much as they want for a monthly subscription. There are also a number of free films to view including Alice In Wonderland and The Housemaid.

Which countries is MUBI available in?

MUBI is available to PlayStation 3 owners in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Australia and New Zealand.

What do I need to do to start using MUBI on my PlayStation 3?

To view films using MUBI on your PlayStation 3 you must first sign in to your Sony Entertainment Network account, then visit PlayStation Store to download the MUBI service application for free. Once MUBI has been installed on your PlayStation 3 system's Hard Disk Drive, you will need to select a payment option before settling down to watch your favourite films.

What kind of payment options does MUBI feature?

There are two payment options available: subscription and pay-per-view. Click here for AUD pricing.

Pay-per-view is ideal if you wish to view movies on a film-by-film basis. Subscription is perfect if you intend to watch as many movies as you want each month. MUBI's monthly subscription service offers unlimited access to all films that are playing in your country. Subscriptions are carried over from month to month automatically, and can be cancelled at any time. All purchases through MUBI use your PlayStation Network Wallet.

What is the age rating for MUBI on PlayStation 3?

MUBI has no age requirement to join. However, you must be over 18 years of age and have a Sony Entertainment Network master account to add funds to your PlayStation Network Wallet and pay for any MUBI services you wish to use.

Are MUBI films available to stream in High Definition?

No, currently MUBI films are delivered in standard definition only.

Is it possible to view trailers to check the quality of video on my PlayStation 3?

Yes. A large selection of films on MUBI have trailers available for viewing.

Can I view what subtitles a particular film will have on MUBI?

Yes. If a film supports subtitles, the languages available will be displayed on that particular film's information page.

Can I change the subtitle language of a film on MUBI?

Currently, the subtitles of a film are fixed by country, so there is no way to disable or change them at present.

Is it possible for me to use my PlayStation 3 MUBI account on MUBI.com?

It is. When you download and install MUBI on your PlayStation 3, an account will be created that allows you to use the service on your PlayStation 3 and on MUBI.com. If you already have a MUBI.com account, an email will be sent that allows you to link both accounts.

How often will new movies be added to MUBI?

New titles are selected and added to the MUBI catalogue all the time. Check back each week to see what's new and keep an eye on PlayStation Blog at blog.au.playstation.com and on au.playstation.com for updates.

MUBI allows me to share my cinematic discoveries and viewing experiences via Facebook and PlayStation Network. If I use these features will my personal profile be made public?

Yes. In order for your discoveries and experiences to be broadcast and shared with others it is necessary to make your profile public. The first time you try to broadcast a social activity, MUBI will display a warning giving you the option whether or not to continue.

Download the MUBI application for free from PlayStation Store today.
