Evolution Studios' game director Paul Rustchynsky explains how a smooth transition between PS Vita and PlayStation 3 means your game will never be interrupted again.

Have you ever been enjoying a game on your PlayStation 3, and then, at a crucial moment, had to leave the house? You can't take your PS3 and TV on the bus or train while you travel to work or college, so you'd have to save your game and pick up from where you left off later in the day, or whenever you had time to sit down again.

Now, the future really is here, in the shape of PlayStation Vita. Cross-Save allows you to continue a game that you were playing on your PS3 on your PS Vita, and vice versa. So, when you leave the house, you can turn on your PS Vita and carry on playing the game that you had started on your PS3, without losing any progress.

"MotorStorm RC was designed to provide seamless play between PS Vita and PS3. It's essentially one game that you can pick up and play on your PS Vita, PS3 or both without ever skipping a beat," explains Evolution Studios' game director, Paul Rustchynsky. "Everything you do in MotorStorm RC is saved and recorded to your PlayStation Network ID. As long as you sign in with the same PSN ID on another system, your progress will be quickly synchronised and you can pick up from where you left off."

The cross-platform features in MotorStorm RC don't restrict you to racing solo, as you compete against friends via PlayStation Network and set record times for them to challenge.

"Competitive Cross-Play is seamless too. MotorStorm RC is an extremely social and competitive game, and with the convenience of continuous cross-platform features bringing the activity between PS Vita and PS3 together makes for a much cleaner and more vibrant experience. All of your best performances, activity updates and challenge records are shared with friends and rivals regardless of the system you're playing on, allowing you to compete and interact with the world as one big community," says Paul.

Sign in to PlayStation Network and you'll be able to track your friends' progress and see their lap times and achievements on your Pitwall - a social feed inside the game that updates you on everyone's activities.

You'll be able to see if one of your friends has completed a track faster than you, and then replay that event to beat their time. This cross-platform feature means that you're constantly competing against other people, but you don't actually have to be playing the game at the same time. Just sign in to PSN and you'll be informed when your friends complete challenges or achieve a new score.

"You can continue your campaign for Festival championship medals, take on the times your rivals are setting around you, earn more trophies in pursuit of that illustrious platinum trophy, all at your own convenience," says Paul.

There are other titles available to download from PlayStation Store - such as Hustle Kings and Top Darts - that use the same type of cross-platform features and allow users to continue their game from PS3 to PS Vita, and vice versa. Paul Rustchynsky believes that this is just the beginning, and the future holds even more incredible possibilities. "I'm really excited to see what other developers can do with cross-platform features. We've already seen some great examples from games like WipEout 2048, and I'm sure developers will continue to experiment and push the concept further over time to provide some truly unique experiences."

Head to PlayStation Store now to download the trial of MotorStorm RC to your PS Vita or PlayStation 3 for free.
