Find out how FIFA 14 gives you the freedom to play however you want on PS4 and PS3 in 2013.
There's nothing like the roar of the crowd as you slot a perfectly placed shot into the back of your rival's net. FIFA 14 on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 is all about capturing the glory of becoming a football superstar without having to brave the ever changeable weather... or deal with the paparazzi on your doorstep.
Like a talented young and upcoming player, FIFA 14 is all about improving the class that's already evident. Getting your world dominating football career started has been made even easier with a revamped Career mode that lets you track the best players for your club across the globe throughout the entire season, with scouts of your choosing. Develop your network of budding lookouts to find out who will be the next rising star on the pitch or the last piece of the puzzle in your quest to build a trophy-winning side.
Once you've moulded your team, it's time to get them running on the pitch - and FIFA 14 really lets you stick the boot in. There's an increased physicality in the game which lets players bump, jostle and push each other, whether it's on or off the ball. If you're playing on PS4 you can expect this element to be even more realistic due to the fresh in-game engine which takes advantage of the new system's extra grunt.
Suddenly an extra element comes into force during matches. FIFA 14's super smooth gameplay remains, but you're angling your stronger players to nudge rivals off the ball, making spontaneous interceptions with a flailing body and keeping an eye on crafty defenders looking to literally block your keen runs.
Creating your ultimate team
This increased physical presence comes with added responsibility, however. Referees can and will stop play for what they see as intentional obstructions or fouls. So using this element tactically is key to unlocking defences or halting a surging attack. And because your pushy play can go either for or against you, it adds a brilliantly tactical edge to the game. You have to think quickly on the run and make use of other features, like the ability to shield the ball with your body.
And what better way to try out your new style of play than with friends? Pick your favourite team from 500 officially licensed clubs spread over 30 leagues and play online against others or join forces with a talented mate to tackle a whole season co-operatively.
Box to box action
There's plenty more to come from FIFA 14 as it sprints towards its 26 September 2013 release date on PS3. Those itching for a chance to have a kick about on the PlayStation 4 version won't have too long to wait either, with a 29 November 2013 launch. To help sweeten the wait, PS4 owners will be able to enjoy even more detail to their game.
Expect fully 3D crowds, extra animations such as players rushing to take corners or throw-ins during the dying minutes of a tight game, and other touches that bring FIFA 14's distinctive football to life.
