Story

Take centre stage

As a humble boy who takes on the burden of liberating the nation of Valeria, you must command a fighting force including mages, warriors and rangers in TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together for PSP, a re-imagining of the PS one classic Tactics Ogre.

The death of Valeria's royal family in a series of suspicious accidents has pitched the country into turmoil. Three factions – the Gargastan, Walstanian and Bacrumese – were persuaded into an uneasy truce by Valeria's king, and with his unifying influence gone, civil war now rocks the country.

Against this backdrop, you set out to discover what happened to the monarchy and bring peace to the country once more. Cleverly, you are placed right at the centre of the saga even before the game begins. Carefully posed questions establish certain character traits that are then fed into the game to personalise your experience.

An even more intricate tale is woven by your actions in-game. Key decisions you make affect the rest of the story and the characters you encounter – you can even change the entire ending of the game, which means TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together provides a thrilling journey over and over again.

How would you define victory? Would you rather travel with friends or family? And at what point would you draw your sword to settle a squabble? These questions and more draw you right into the heart of TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together, the adventure that hinges on every choice you make.

Once you've created your hero, it's time to set out on your quest and experience a world steeped in the magic of countless fairytales. Take care not to be lulled into a false sense of security, for within these charming, old school sprites lurk potent enemies, waiting to trip you up at every stage of your journey.

Your party of up to 12 will come under attack from all sides as you explore the forests, plains and castle towns of Valeria, which is where the game's flexible, isometric point of view comes in especially handy. It gives you a bird's-eye view of the battlefield which you can rotate to see all sides of the situation, so you can get on with the business of devising ingenious tactics.

A stirring orchestral score complements the detailed cartoon-like visuals, matching the grand sweep of the story and surroundings for drama and leaving you in no doubt that TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together is one of the most lavish adventures on PSP.

Take your turn

Gameplay

Take your turn

While TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together is a new take on the PS one epic Tactics Ogre, you don't have to be a long-time fan to appreciate its revolutionary approach to strategic gameplay.

Each character under your control is given a turn in which to move to a section of the grid-based battle map, where they can be ordered to attack, defend or use items. Your chances of landing a telling blow depend on the way you manoeuvre your troops into position, leading to some brilliantly tense games of cat and mouse as you seek to outflank your pin-sharp, computer-controlled opponent.

Adaptability and daring are key to victory. With over 60 character classes to choose from and a range of factors influencing your plans, there's a way out of even the tightest situation if you think hard enough. The game will predict how deadly – or feeble – an attack will be; the Chariot Tarot card, meanwhile, is a great way to stop a battle spiralling out of control as it logs the last 50 moves of any battle for you to try again.

This attention to detail and depth makes TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together hugely rewarding. Try it for yourself on PSP and experience one of the finest tactical adventures ever made.
