Australian gamers defy popular trends and instead reward depth and maturity as IGN.com announce the winners of the IGN SELECT Awards 2010.
The IGN.com SELECT Awards celebrates the world of gaming from an Australian perspective, as voted on by IGN readers. More than 50,000 votes were tallied in this year's selection process.
Last year's IGN SELECT Awards not only saw Uncharted 2: Among Thieves take home Best Console Game, but also Editor's Choice, Best Visual Design and the Overall IGN SELECT Award.
This year, defying the rapid growth in the social, mobile and motion-sensing sectors of the video game industry, the winning titles indicate players prefer depth of content and mature themes above all else. The highest honour, the IGN SELECT Award for the best overall game of 2010, was awarded to science fiction role-playing epic, Mass Effect 2. The game, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts, also joined titles like Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Heavy Rain as stand-out favourites within the IGN community.
"Aussies have underlined the value of rich content and production values," said Narayan Pattison, Publishing Director of IGN.com Australia. "These winners reflect the mainstream impact of sophisticated, mature-minded gaming, as well as the best all-ages titles of the year. Plus, they were a heck of a lot of fun - and that's ultimately what matters."
IGN.com readers were asked to vote for their favourite games across 10 categories such as Best Console Game, Most Innovative Design and Best Newcomer Award. Each category included the highest rating titles of the year, as well as fresh gaming franchises and independent releases.
