PS Vita

It's never been a better time to own a PlayStation®Vita. Find out what features have been included in the massive PS Vita Update (version 1.80), released on 28 August 2012.

The main features of PS Vita update version 1.80 include:

PS one Classics available on PS Vita

You can now download and play original PlayStation® format software on your PS Vita system. PS one Classics, including FINAL FANTASY VII, Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 2, are available to download directly to your PS Vita. View the full line-up of PS one Classics that are available for download from PlayStation Store.

Control with Buttons on PS Vita

The home menu screen and some features of applications such as [Videos] and [Music] can now be controlled with buttons on the PS Vita system. You'll need to enable this on your PS Vita system by going to [Settings] > [System], then turning on [Control with Buttons on PS Vita System].

Browser usability improvements

Changes made to [Browser] include search functionality, with the search box now appearing on the address bar of the window. There's the addition of the (up) button to go to the top of the page, plus, back touch is now supported, allowing you to scroll up and down with the rear touch pad. In addition, the overall usability of the browser has been improved by readjusting the button layout on the screen.

Video player enhancements

Some features have been added to Videos. Play speed control, Repeat play, fast forward/fast reverse, auto-creation of thumbnails and control with the buttons on the PS Vita system during video playback are now supported.

Maps update

The usability of [Maps] has been improved by adding some features, including a button on the top screen to switch between "Search for Location" and "Search for Directions". You can also touch and hold your desired location on the map and place a user flag and can delete user flags on the map by using the options menu.

Cross-Controller functionality

The icon to start Cross-Controller has been added to the LiveArea™ screen of [Remote Play]. Cross-Controller will install the application required for use of the Cross-Controller feature on the PS Vita system that you'll be able to use when playing PS3™ software that supports the Cross-Controller feature, such as LittleBigPlanet 2.

Music

Playlists are now supported in [Music] and can be transferred from a PS3™ system or a PC using [Content Manager]. You can use playlists created on a PS3 system or even in iTunes (iTunes version 10.6.3 or later required) on your PS Vita system. Supported Playlists format: M3U.M3U8 and iTunes Playlists.

Group Messaging

Some features have been added to [Group Messaging]. You can now use the camera while creating a message to take a photo and attach it to the message. To take a photo while creating a message, tap [Attach File] > [Take Photo]. The photo you take will then be attached to the message.

These are just some of the features added to PS Vita Update (version 1.80). Click here for a complete update of features or take a video tour.

A PS Vita system software update is required to use PlayStation Network features and some features on the system. Also, downloading and installing the PS Vita system software update will update your PS Vita system's operating system to include the latest security patches, as well as new and revised applications, features and settings. It is recommended that you always maintain your system to use the latest version of the system software.
